In the 5th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Basketball Challenge, eight local girls high school teams will come together for a day of competition and fundraising. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of food, Woodlands athletic wear, raffle tickets, game tickets and cancer awareness T-shirts will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Both athletes and guests will also receive an informational pamphlet that includes breast cancer facts and guidelines for early detection.
Hosted by the Woodlands Falcons Nest Booster Club, the challenge is a great way to enjoy basketball games with teams outside Woodlands' schedule, said Booster Club President David Jackson.
"It's a great opportunity to enjoy some good girls basketball and also make sure people get the knowledge they need about cancer awareness," Jackson said.
Last year, the event raised $600 to donate to the ACS and an additional $1,800 to benefit the school's athletic programs.
The basketball challenge begins at 11 a.m. and includes four games throughout the day, the last one at 5 p.m. pitting Woodlands against Dobbs Ferry High School. The booster club is accepting a $3 donation for tickets and $1 for Greenburgh 7 District students.
