Woodlands Looking For Revenge In Elmsford Classic

ELMSFORD, N.Y. — If all goes well in the first rounds for both Alexander Hamilton and Woodlands varsity girls basketball teams, there could be a neighboring-rivals showdown this weekend.

The Elmsford Basketball Classic will first put Woodlands head to head with Pleasantville High School on Thursday night, then pit Hamilton against Byram Hills on Friday. It will be Hamilton's first time playing Byram Hills, but senior guard Maia Hood said the girls are up for the task.

"We're ready for any challenge. We've just got to come out like it's any other team," Hood said.

While the Hamilton Red Raiders earned a Section 1 Class C Championship last year and a berth in the state tournament, they will see a good game against the Byram Hills Bobcats, who lost in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals to No.2-seeded Tappan Zee last year by four points.

The Woodlands Falcons are returning to the annual tournament with junior guard Imani Tilford. Tilford has proved herself already this season, coming out with 27 points against Pelham on Monday to lift Woodlands to a 55-52 victory and passing the 1,000-point milestone in her varsity career.

Woodlands' 11-7 record was good enough for a No. 5 spot in the Class B playoffs last year, while Pleasantville just made it into the playoffs with a 5-13 record ranked last at No. 16.

The Falcons will be looking for revenge and the Red Raiders, a back-to-back title, after the two met at last year's Elmsford classic and Hamilton took the 66-53 win.

The following is the complete schedule for this year's Elmsford Classic, which will take place at Alexander Hamilton.
