TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Commuters should plan for extra travel time over the next two weeks as work on Route 119 will close westbound lanes beginning Monday, Jan. 30, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Motorists should expect heavy delays and seek alternate routes where possible to avoid the area, officials said.

During the construction, westbound lanes will be closed between Sawyer Avenue and the Interstate 287 on-ramp beginning at 9:30 a.m., with traffic being shifted to the eastbound lanes for travel west and east.  Traffic control will be performed by police.

The closure is expected to last until Friday, Feb. 17.

Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.

Motorists are also reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
