UPDATED 9 a.m.: The Theodore D. Young Community Center will be open as a warming center or temporary shelter for anyone who needs it. GREENBURGH, N.Y. — The salt is on the roads and now all the Greenburgh Department of Public Works can do is wait.

DPW crews spent all day Thursday laying down liquid salt on most of Greenburgh's roads to prepare for what the National Weather Service says could be a foot of snow.

"We've had two vehicles putting the salt down all day on all the major roads," DPW Commissioner Victor Carosi said on Thursday. "[Friday] we're going to play it by ear and just react to the weather as it progresses."

DPW will have about 35 members from the Highway Department and the Repair Division on call throughout Friday, Carosi said. It's possible crews will be rotating on the clock for 36 hours straight "if we need it," he added.

"We're going to work until everything's back to normal," Carosi said.

Con Edison workers will also monitor Friday's storm and is prepared to respond to any power outages that may occur, according to a statement. Con Ed said it will also be in close contact with the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services to coordinate storm response, if necessary.

The storm forecast has already closed several schools and town events on Friday. The snow could start as early as midnight Friday, and Greenburgh could see 5 inches of snow on the ground by 7 p.m., according to NWS.

Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 7 to 12 inches by Friday night, NWS reported.

Customers can report downed power lines, power outages and restoration status by calling 1-800-752-6633, or online with Con Edison's Report an Outage tool .
