Snow Cone, Hot Dog Eatery Unfazed By Cooler Temps

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – Doc Ice, the family owned and operated restaurant specializing in snow-cones and hotdogs, will not close down during the winter, said co-owner Keith Wilson.

Instead, the past year saw them add new items to the menu, like chili, empanadas, cheese steaks, chicken nuggets and fried chicken. The warmer foods have already proven to be a big hit with current customers, and will also bring customers in during the colder months.

"We didn't want to be off the beaten path from hot dogs, though," said Wilson, whose eatery serves 102 flavors of snow cones and 14 types of hot dogs.

Butler said that Doc Ice's food is predicated around what people crave – it's fun food that tastes good and is convenient.

Last winter, Doc Ice was still relatively new, as they opened on Aug. 30, 2010, and was still bringing in new customers. This winter, said Wilson, things will be different because the village already knows that they exist and are introducing new foods to the community.

"We are still Westchester's best kept secret," said Wilson, who is intent on staying in Elmsford and making a name for his restaurant.

In the coming year, Doc Ice is looking to introduce more snow cone flavors, including tamarind, chocolate and peppermint.
