The donation was a result of Swiss Re employees choosing the Food Bank as its 2016 Charity of the Year, a partnership that they kicked-off at a breakfast last month.

The Food Bank is a part of the county's emergency food network. It works with local hunger relief agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, and daycare and senior-care facilities to provide the greatest amount of food possible for its neighbors in need.

Last year, the Food Bank distributed over 7.5 million pounds of food, and this year they are on track to provide more than 8 million pounds.
