Ardsley Man Tests Knowledge On Jeopardy

ARDSLEY, N.Y. – When David Scott Schuman attended Ardsley High School, he watched "Jeopardy" nearly every night. As time progressed, he felt like he knew a lot of the answers and wanted to test out his knowledge.

Schuman got the chance to do so over the summer as he flew to Los Angeles, Calif. to tape the show. It will air on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. on ABC.

"I felt like I was walking on air," Schuman said. "I just couldn't believe it. It was amazing. I went out there this summer and taped it. It was the coolest thing. It was pretty surreal to be there. I got out there and my stomach was in knots. But when I got on set, I wasn't nervous at all. It felt very natural to be up there on the set. It was a cool thing."

Schuman, 21, has lived in Ardsley his whole life. He is currently a senior, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., studying communications and economics. Over the summer, Schuman reprised his role as a summer intern at Greenburgh Town Hall.

He qualified to be on the show in early 2011 after successfully completing an online "Jeopardy" quiz. However, he was not contacted to actually appear on the show until earlier this year. Schuman participated in a New York City mock taping before being asked to partake in the show.

"I feel like I've been watching the show forever," he said. "I realized that I knew a bit about the questions, and I got better at it. I'm kind of like a sponge in the way that if I see something once, I sort of just know it after that."

While Schuman admitted that he did not have much interaction with the infamous "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek, he said that Trebek's fame is well-deserved.

"He has a great personality," Schuman said. "He was cracking jokes the entire time. He lets the audience ask him questions – whatever they want to ask."

Catch Ardsley's Schuman on "Jeopardy" in one-and-a-half weeks to see if he won.
