People can drop off their donations at the rear parking lot of Greenburgh police headquarters, 188 Tarrytown Road. Greenburgh PBA President Sean Hagan said collections are welcome any time of the day.
"People really need help in Queens and the Long Island area," said Hagan, who will drive the truck of donations to the New York Police Department in the Rockaways Friday. "We figured we should do what we can do to help."
Hagan stressed to stick to the items on the following list, as people are in dire need of them:
- Cleaning supplies
- Garbage bags
- Gloves
- Shovels and tools
- Wheelbarrows
- Generators
- Canned goods
- Water
- Toilet paper
- Towels
- Blankets
- Winter coats
- Soap and shampoo
- Toys for small children
- Pet food
Officer Peter Dandreano, who will join Hagan in the relief efforts, said he hopes people realize how residents in coastal regions of New York and New Jersey were hit much worse than those in Westchester County.
"Even if people don't have power, they have some comfort," Dandreano said. "These people — they don't have anything down there."
Dandreano and Hagan are confident they'll see the truck fill up by Friday. Shop Rite has already promised to donate two pallets of water, and several people had already swung by on Tuesday, the center's first day of running. The truck will leave for the Rockaways Friday afternoon.
