Aronoff, of Hartsdale, was one of dozens of Greenburgh senior residents, TDYCC club members, and residents of local assisted-living-facility centers who attended a special Thanksgiving lunch celebration at the center Tuesday afternoon.
The event is organized every year to provide food and fun for seniors who may not have family or friends to celebrate Thanksgiving with, said Town of Greenburgh Deputy Commissioner James Robinson.
"A lot of them don't have a lot of family in the area, so we do the event every year to make sure they have a hot meal to eat," Robinson said.
The luncheon, which included turkey, vegetables, cornbread, and pumpkin pie for dessert, was donated by local businesses, Robinson said. Live music and entertainment, provided by Billee T and Marcia Pharr Thomas, had many participants dancing and singing along before their meals were distributed.
Program Director George Coniglio - who himself drove some residents to the event who otherwise wouldn't be able to get there themselves - said it's something the seniors look forward to every year.
Greenburgh resident Mary Jenkins said she came to celebrate the holiday and give thanks for everything she has in her life.
"I'm thankful for my life - just being alive and having friends, and being able to do things like this," Jenkins said.
