Robert Sinkway, 86, Lifelong Glen Rock Resident

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Lifelong Glen Rock resident Robert Sinkway died Tuesday, May 31. He was 86.

Sinkway graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1947 and from Rutgers University in 1954. 

At Rutgers, he became a member of the ROTC and continued his service with the N.J. National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. 

He was president of Sinkway Bros. Plumbing & Heating Inc., founded by his father in 1927. 

Sinkway was a choir member at Community Church of Glen Rock for 40 years and served as deacon and a property committee member. 

He served as co-director of The Bergen County United Way campaign and was a member of The Men's Activities Club and The Historical Society of Glen Rock. 

Sinkway is survived by his wife, Constance Ann Parker; four children and six grandchildren: his son, David Sinkway, his wife, Gabrielle Sellei and their children, Lily and Adam; his daughter, Robin, her husband, Gary Emery and their children, Zach and Meg; his daughter, Jody Sinkway; and his daughter, Diane, her husband, Don Stenberg and their children, Garret and Trevor. 

He also is survived by his brother, Jack and Jack's partner, Sheilia Lenga; as well as his nieces Laurie Nelson, Carol Nelson and Gail Nelson-Bonebrake. 

Sinkway was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Barbara Parker. 

A service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road, Glen Rock. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Community Church of Glen Rock or to your favorite charity.
