The man, who was later identified as Denny Fernandes Dep Pina Andrade, was arrested in Lynnfield on Tuesday, May 16 after stealing a gray Toyota Tacoma truck, crashing into a Mercedes-Benz SUV, and then leading police in a chase that reached up to 115 mph, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
A state trooper noticed the truck at 11:28 p.m. when it sped past his cruiser and into a coned-off construction zone on Tobin Bridge in Boston, knocking over every traffic cone.
The truck's driver ignored the trooper's attempts to pull the car over and swerved into the left lane and headed north on Route 1 at high speeds.
The chase continued on Route 1, passing through Chelsea, Revere, Saugus, and into Lynnfield at speeds up to 115 mph.
While chasing the truck, the trooper learned that the Toyota Tacoma was reported stolen out of Brockton and had been fleeing from a crash Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV in the CANA Tunnel when he first noticed the Toyota Tacoma driving over traffic cones.
At mile marker 60, inside the Lynnfield Tunnel under the Route 129 overpass, the truck's driver lost control and crashed into the concrete barriers that separate the northbound and southbound lanes.
The crash spun the truck perpendicular to the road. It slid about 20 feet down the median with its bed riding on the barriers and the cab facing down into the travel lane.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, the trooper placed the driver into custody. He was identified as Denny Fernandes Dep Pina Andrade, whose driver's license had been suspended since August 2021 for failure to pay fines.
Andrade had no apparent injuries and declined medical treatment.
He was taken to the State Police-Tunnels Barracks and booked on the following charges:
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
- Receiving a stolen motor vehicle
- Failure to stop for police
- Leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Operating after license suspension
- Speeding
- Marked lanes violation
The crash caused extensive damage to the concrete barriers, state police said.
