GREENBURGH, N.Y. The Greenburgh Central 7 school board's search for a new permanent superintendent is going public as they open it to residents for local input.
Wanting to make the best decision for the school district's families, two community forums have been set up for Jan. 23 and 24. Parents and students are invited to hear news on the board's progression and to share their thoughts about what qualities the new superintendent should have and what they are looking for the superintendent to project.
"We're trying to make sure that people in different parts of the town can get to a place where the forum is being held," Board of Education President Terry Williams said about the two evening forum locations.
In addition, an online survey can be found at www.greenburgh7.com, asking residents what they want in their future superintendent. The survey will be available until Jan. 31.
Dr. Ronald Smalls, the last GC7 superintendent, retired in December 2011. In November, Dr. Sidney Freund was hired as interim superintendent , expected to serve from January to June. However, he mutually parted ways with the job in early January. Dr. Susan Sciascia was then appointed as acting superintendent for roughly one week until high school principal Ron Ross was appointed as interim superintendent last week. Ross will serve in that capacity until June 30, 2012.
The school board hired the consultancy firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to help them find a permanent superintendent to begin working on July 1, 2012. The board recently commented that their initial meetings with the consultancy firm are progressing well.
The community forum on Jan. 23 will begin at 7 p.m. in the Woodlands High School cafeteria. The following night's forum, on Jan. 24, will take place at the Theodore D. Young Community Center.
