Manager Joe Girardi, a Westchester resident, announced he will not be returning as skipper in 2018.

Girardi, who won a World Series in 2009, has managed the team since 2008 and compiled a 910-710 record during his time in The Bronx.

"With a heavy heart, I come to you because the Yankees have decided not to bring me back," Girardi, who lives in Purchase, said in a statement.

He managed the Yankees to within one game of the pennant this year, losing 4-3 to the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series. Girardi had finished up a 4-year $16 million contract.

General Manager Brian Cashman issued a statement wishing Girardi well.

"I want to thank Joe for his 10 years of hard work and service to this organization," Cashman said. "We've decided to pursue alternatives for the managerial position. [Girardi] has been a tremendous Yankee on the field and away from it, as a player, coach, and manager.

Girardi, who also managed the Florida Marlins, played for the Yankees from 1996 to 1999, winning four World Series.

Following his World Series win in 2009, Girardi helped a woman who had crashed her car into a wall on the Cross County Parkway in Eastchester. Police said Girardi risked his life to help by running across the eastbound lane of the parkway near a blind curve.
